The Renouard formula in every inspector's pocket
Atlas Contrôle is an independent inspection body, BELAC-accredited (no. 663-INSP) and approved by the Belgian FPS Economy. Its teams carry out electrical, gas and propane inspections, boiler acceptance tests, and issue energy performance certificates across Belgium.
Inspecting a gas installation means calculating the pressure loss for every appliance. The calculation depends on pipe type, length and height difference, and rests on the Renouard formula: accurate, but laborious and error-prone to apply by hand in the field.
The calculation engine was moved into an application that runs on desktop, phone and tablet, and works offline. The inspector enters the parameters and gets the pressure loss in a few clicks, with no transcription errors. The same engine is embedded in Atlas Contrôle's dashboard: one implementation of the maths, two entry points.
Sizing gas networks relied on a spreadsheet mastered by a handful of engineers: the pressure-loss calculation was sound, but impossible to pass on and unusable in the field. We moved that calculation engine into a standalone web component, embedded both in a dedicated application and in the client's existing dashboard — one implementation of the maths, two entry points, no chance of the two drifting apart. It works offline and pulls its reference data from a central server.
